Folsoms Auto was opened in the spring of 1967 by Richard "Dick" Folsom right here at our current location, 232 Rowe road. Prior to that, Dick owned and operated service stations in Skowhegan and Waterville. Dick operated the salvage yard, repair shop and towing business here successfully throughout the late 60's, the 70's and into the 80's. Folsoms Auto has always been a family business with many of Dicks 5 children and 4 step children working different jobs here throughout the years.

In 1984, Folsoms Auto was purchased by Dicks 2nd son, David Folsom and his business partner "Tubby" Lisherness. The two operated the salvage yard as a 2nd location in addition to their car dealership in Skowhegan through the late 80's until David and his wife, Bonny bought out Tubby's half of the business, venturing out on their own and moving "Up on the hill" in April of 1991. David and Bonny operated the business as Folsom & Sons Auto Sales, Service, Salvage, and Towing and saw great growth and success through the 90's and into the new century. David greatly improved the business with modern, computerized inventory management systems, and hiring highly skilled ASE certified technicians. In 2003, David built the "new" garage...our current building, taking us from a dark and gloomy 1 bay to a new spacious and modern 4 bay garage. In 2006, David's 2nd son David "Deuce" Folsom II graduated from Husson College with a business management degree and started working full time here as inventory manager and online sales person. The two David's worked side by side every day, growing the garage and expanding the business any way they could. Taking on new commercial and fleet repair accounts, doing local and long distance towing and greatly expanding our auto sales branch. New additions were added to the building and storage for used parts added to the yard.

On January 1, 2018, David II and his wife, Bobbi purchased the business from his parents. David and Bonny took the car sales branch downtown to a new lot as part of their "semi-retirement". It's been an exciting first 9 months for 3rd generation owners David and Bobbi. After changing the business name back to the original Folsoms Auto, they have taken on several remodel projects... giving the office a new facelift, rebuilding the "old garage" into a large storage building with a great new look, building a new, 4 bay dismantling and scrapping shop, and buying several new pieces of important equipment. In March, David II flew to Tennessee to purchase a new 4 place car carrier to make hauling new inventory back from the auctions much more efficient. Also, he purchased a new loader to replace the outdated "fat alice" that had served the salvage yard well, moving thousands of cars for the past 25 years. Also, 3 new employees were added, bringing the total to 7 full time workers.

The future is still bright "up on the hill". The Folsoms have been found here working for more than 50 years and with David and Bobbis expanding family now including Amelia, David III- "Tres", and Charlotte, it looks to stay that way for a while.
